Happy 2019 from the Navasota Artists-in-Residence!
Over the holiday, Apinya, Hannah, and Rebecca met up for New Years at Rebecca’s home in Scottsdale, Arizona, where we had an opportunity to explore Old Town Scottsdale, and see the inspiring Sonoran Desert landscape at the Desert Botanical Gardens.
On January 2nd, we left Scottsdale at 4am to start driving to our next destination: Marfa. Our route led us from the Sonoran desert to the Chihuahuan Desert, and included an unexpected snowstorm in Southern Arizona some extra adventure!
We arrived to Marfa and Fort Davis in time view the famous Texas night sky at the McDonald Observatory, where we got to see galaxies and the Orion nebula through telescopes. The following day, we attended a Chinati Tour, where we saw works by famous artists Donald Judd, Dan Flavin, Robert Irwin, and John Chamberlain.
We were truly inspired by this unique opportunity to pilgrimage to this famous Texas arts destination, and to be able to share this experience as fellow artists. Apinya and Rebecca were particularly inspired by in Irwin’s work, while Hannah especially enjoyed seeing Chamberlain’s sculpture collection.
Here are a few photos from our adventure–hope that you had a creative and inspiring holiday as well!
