Creative Paper Collage in Artist Connect Workshops

On March 20-21, 2018, I have done Artist Connect Workshops at Brule Elementary in Navasota and Crockett Elementary School in Bryan. As a mixed media paper artist, my workshops were about ‘Paper Collage’ introducing students to a technique of assembling various pieces of paper to create an artwork. Kids were excited to learn how to collage in different themes; food, fruit, ice cream, monster, and bunny. We had fun cutting and gluing color papers together and below are some pictures from the workshops.

Artist Connect is a program the Arts Council puts on every spring in Brazos Valley classrooms.  The purpose is to bring professional artists from a variety of disciplines into Brazos Valley classrooms to engage students in hands-on learning.  We do this by arranging one-day workshops at a school where an artist spend time with students in their art classrooms.  The artists create and lead the elementary-aged classes in interactive art activities that align with fine arts TEKS (Texas Essential Knowledge & Skills).

I was so glad to be a part of the Artist Connect sharing my knowledge of Paper Arts to students. I hope they had a good experience and enjoyed the workshop. Thank you the Arts Council for the teaching opportunities, and special thanks to Amy Salvaggio (Program Director) and all teachers at the schools for the big help to successfully complete the workshops with large groups of students.
